Tip of the Day: Be cautious with people who often tell you what you want to hear.

As a business leader you might have notice that there are people who very often tend to agree with you and explicitly show this. They might even tell you what you want to hear. Although for some business leaders this might seem sympathetic, you need to be careful and ask yourself why people behave like this. There are different reasons:

  • They want to hide their lack of knowledge

  • They want their boss to like them

  • They might be insecure and afraid to tell the truth

  • They want to create an advantage versus their colleagues

I’m sure that these reasons don’t bring any value to any business leader.

So, what to do?

  • First, identify the people who behave like that

  • Challenge them by asking questions. Example Why do you agree with me? What different view do you have on this subject? What else can we do about this? Be sure to have patience and wait for the answers.

By doing so, you inspire your team to add value and growth to your organization.
